winter toner

i am getting low on the burt’s bees toner i bought a couple of years ago. it’s not the sort of thing i use every day, but is good to have around.

i find a lot of toners to be pretty harsh and drying on my skin, especially in the winter, but this recipe is less intense. obviously the right mix for you will depend on your skin type, but if you have super greasy skin i’d recommend adding more tea tree for sure…

this recipe just makes a small jar, about 50 ml.

ingredients:

1/8 c water
1/8 c witch hazel
1 t emulsifier

essential oils:

1 drop palmrosa
1 drop bitter orange
1 drop lemongrass
1 drop geranium
1 drop ylang ylang
2 drops tea tree

to make:

(i tried to take pictures of the process, but they were pretty useless. it’s all fairly straightforward…)

mix water and witch hazel in a small bowl

in something egg-cup sized (i used 1/8 c measuring cup) add FIRST emulsifier, then add essential oils to it. stir it up, then add to the water/which hazel. i used a little spatula to make sure i didn’t miss any of the oil, because it is a pretty small amount.

then pour it into a nice little jar, give it a good shake, and there you are!
i used alcohol-free witch hazel (because that’s what i have) and maybe that’s why it’s pretty mild, but i am really happy with the result. i don’t find that this dries out my skin at all.
