cocoa butter body lotion

this recipe makes a smooth, creamy body lotion. this lotion is very moisturizing, but absorbs quickly into your skin and won’t make your clothes greasy.

i chose not to add any extra oils for scent because the cocoa butter gives it a nice mild chocolatey smell, but you definitely could if you wanted.

ingredients:

5 T (1/4 c + 1 T) cocoa butter
1 T and 2 t beeswax
3 T shea butter
1 T emulsifier
4 T (1/4 c) water
4 T (1/4 c) aloe

to make:

melt cocoa butter, beeswax and shea butter together. take off heat, and mix in emulsifier (and essential oil now if you want - i’d use 3-5 drops)
mix water and aloe in blender/mixing vessel, then add oil ingredients
blend well. i found that for the amount this recipe makes a hand blender works best.
finished product
the lotion will seem fairly thin at first, but will thicken up after a couple of hours. give it time. i recommend blending it a few times as it cools, to keep everything mixed. once it’s fully cooled, it will stay mixed.
*as you can see in the last photo, this lotion is fairly thick, so if you’re using a pump bottle, i might use a bit less cocoa butter.

  1. What do you use as an emulsifier? Do you need it?
