iced tea

iced tea is pretty basic stuff, but i really couldn’t live without it!

in the spirit of trying to be healthier and more aware of what i’m putting in my body, i’m trying to stay away from juice (except for what i make fresh with my juicer). it’s so sugary and too often has gross preservatives, artificial flavouring and colouring, etc.

this past summer i started keeping iced tea on hand at all times, so when i craved something juice-like it was always there for me. i tend to stay away from caffeinated iced tea, since i almost always drink it in the afternoon and evening, and i already have insomnia.

i keep a good stash of fruity herbal teas on-hand and try to keep a bottle of iced tea in the fridge at all times. matt says it’s not sweet enough, and if you agree you could always add a natural sweetener like honey, but i like it without any sweetener. it’s so refreshing and tasty, and since it’s just tea i don’t have to feel shitty when i drink a whole bottle of it - if i did that with juice i’d get sugar high, and then crash and burn.
it’s become something i can’t live without, and i’m okay with that. i usually just throw 3 tea bags in my bodem, and let it sit until the water has cooled to room temperature. then pour into a glass bottle and keep it in the fridge. it’s fun to mix and match flavours to create something new every time. today’s blend: 1 peach, 1 raspberry, 1 apricot.
think of all the things you can do with iced tea. drink it straight, use in smoothies in place of juice, blend with fruit and freeze to make healthy popsicles, mix half and half with wine to make a refreshing spritzer… there is no end to the options!
