i love basil rice! i had it a bunch of times at thai restaurants, and
decided i HAD to figure out how to make it. the first couple of times i
made the mistake of trying too COOK the basil WITH the rice. blech.

the trick is FRESH basil, it tastes SO much better!!

ingredients:
6 c chopped veggies and tofu/meat
2 c cooked rice (i prefer basmati)
1/4 c hoisin sauce
1/4 c soy sauce
1 T garlic (or less - i like a lot of garlic!)
2 t sambal olek or other hot sauce (to taste)
1 c chopped fresh basil
2 c cooked rice (i prefer basmati)
1/4 c hoisin sauce
1/4 c soy sauce
1 T garlic (or less - i like a lot of garlic!)
2 t sambal olek or other hot sauce (to taste)
1 c chopped fresh basil
to make:
make your rice! i use about 3/4 c dry basmati, 1 3/4 c water, 1 t salt, 1 T oil... but make it how you like it!

chop up your veggies/tofu/meat.

and your basil!

fry your veggies and meat until they are done, about 10-15 minutes on med-low.

then stir in rice and basil.
next, for the sauce:

pour in your hoisin and soy sauce. you may want to start with a bit
less than 1/4 c of each - taste it and see what you think. then add
garlic and hot sauce to taste. make sure it's mixed well!

enjoy!!
